What is ECPY?
Any student who is accepted as an RA must successfully complete ECPY 301. At first, I didn't understand why this class was necessary. However, I quickly learned the importance. During the class I learned a vast amount of new information that I will be able to carry on for the rest of my life. In this class, we learned about diversity, professionalism, how to handle situations, and so on. These are skills that are necessary not only for our role as an RA, but throughout life. As a Resident Assistant, we represent SUNY Albany. We are role models to not only our residents, but to everyone. The lessons we learn in ECPY 301 will help every single one of us successfully carryout that role.
Reflection
I can honestly say that I enjoyed this class. It was truly a great experience to take a class that didn't follow the cookie-cutter standard of lectures and assignments. Yes, we did have lectures and assignments, but most of our class time involved hands-on activities. It was exciting to take part in a class full of enthusiastic students. Everyone in the class shared the same goal: learn the necessary skills to become an RA. Therefore, most of the students were very active throughout the class. With that being said, this class seemed very rare compared to most of my other college courses where students try to avoid participating. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed taking this class and learning the skills required to become an RA. The experience of taking such an interactive class with eager students was truly the highlight of ECPY.
